As dentists, our priority is saving the natural teeth by treating them and keeping them in the mouth as possible as it can be. Therefore, when this is not possible, the problematic tooth needs to be extracted. The extraced teeth’s gaps may be singular or multiple. No matter singular or multiple teeth gaps, for the oral dynamics not to be deteriorated, these gaps needs to be restored prosthetically.
Before usage of the implants in dentistry, these gaps were restored with total tooth prostheses in the conditions of dental bridge prosthesis, partial denture prosthesis and total edentulism. But in order to apply a dental bridge prosthesis, a couple of teeth from the gap’s left or right were needed to be cut. With the implant technology’s improvement just by placing a screw into the gap, healthy teeth are saved without applying any procedures to adjacent teeth structures. As for some procedures, implants contribute to easing patient’s eating by providing positive support to total prosthesis’ grip.
After tooth loss, in order to provide the teethless zones’ prosthetically rehabilitation, implants which are named as artificial dental roots are placed and biting function, phonation, and aesthetics are given to the patient.
Implants can be in different forms and molds.
Dentists decides which implants to use accordingly to the present incident. Sometimes the bone which is the one that the implant to be placed in is not in the enough width. In this case, at first bone mass is bulked with advanced surgical operations (Graft & Membrane), after recovery (3-4 months later), implant is placed.
Implants are composed of two parts.
1. Intraosseus screw part.
2. Upper part named as abutment.
Prosthesis structure which is visible inside the mouth is placed on the abutment. After implant’s screw part’s placement into the bone, there is a waiting time for it to cohere with the bone (osteointegration) about 3 months. Later on gums are shaped by placing the healing caps and abutment is placed and upper prosthesis structure is installed.
Also another practice in implant treatment is immediate implant tooth formation. This procedure can be done when the conditions are convenient. This is a treatment which excludes the 3 months waiting time after placement of the implant screw into the bone. Tooth is placed in the same visit.

F.A.Q. ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANT TREATMENT
Implant’s success are based on different factors. It’s not right to appoint a certain date to this. A lot of factors effect the implant’s succes and the amount of time it has inside the mouth such as existence of the enough amount and quality of the bone tissue, existence of the enough amount of the keratinized gums, patient’s mouth hygiene, patient’s possibility of having a systemic disease, surgical technique, accurate appliance of the prothesis which was done to upper implant. Implant’s healthy time amount in the mouth is lengthen out in the condition of all of the terms are ideally provided.
Implant is not in an organic structure but a material, so cavities has no affect on dental implants.
In every case where bone allows the placement of implant, it can be done no matter single or multiple teeth considered.
Two different treatment protocols can be executed on the matter of the placement of the implant instead of the extracted tooth. In the extraction visit, implant application can be done if there’s enough amount of bone tissue and keratinized gums to provide the primary stability of the implant after extraction. After the extraction procedure if there’s no bone loss in the extraction gap but primary stability can not be provided, implant surgery can be done after the waiting time of 3-4 months for this area to heal.
Since implants are teeth imitating materials, they can be done everywhere if needed, which has suitable bone.
There are two different executions for this procedure. In the traditional way, after the titanium part of the implant is placed into the bone, there is an approximately 3 months of waiting time for it’s osseointegration (coherence to bone), and after this time upper prosthesis part is done. This is the way which the doctors choose the most. In some conditions (providing aesthetics to the frontal teeth loss or patience’s impatience about having teeth as soon as possible) immediately after screw’s placement, prosthesis part of the implant can be done without waiting for 3 months.
It’s right to answer this question by telling who can not get dental implants. Patiences who have bad general states of health (radiotherapy, chemotherapy, bisphosphonate usage, unregulated sugar usage, osteoporosis, hemorrhagic sickness etc.) and who have untreatable oral bone loss can not get dental implants. As it can be seen, in order to get a dental implant, it is necessary to be systematically healthy and have enough amount of bone tissue. Everyone who meets this conditions can get dental implants.
Implants should be cared just like the natural teeth. Oral care products that are dentists’ recommendations like tooth brush, dental floss, mouth shower must be used regularly. Otherwise it may be inevitable to encounter an implant loss, just like a tooth loss in an uncared mouth.
